The Springfield model 1884 was a trapdoor breechblock service rifle produced by the Springfield Armory for the United States military. An improved replacement for the Springfield model 1873 (and its variants), it was made in three versions: a long rifle (principally with sight modifications); a carbine likewise; and a long rifle further modified to accept a modified bayonet system.
